The problem

Community Health Network asked us to help their leaders be more ambidextrous and develop skills to reinvent their business models. They needed an internal development program that created the space and capacity to collaborate with their peers and design, develop and launch new business models to improve patient outcomes. Included in the problem they were facing was branding and facilitating the program in a way that created greater trust that the innovation strategy could lead to new revenue-generating ventures.

How we helped

We designed a Leadership Institute to explore future ways to create value specific to a variety of emerging patient jobs to be done. We created and facilitated a curriculum that engaged leaders in-person, accelerating progress towards adaptation of existing business models. The program grounded the leaders with live field research done to bring the voice of the local patient into creative dialogue. The experiential training helped leaders feel empowered to change their business and positioned innovation as a strategic capability.

What we built

As a result of the work, we co-created a Search Prospectus that outlined four unique discovery pathways to create new business models through internal startup teams working inside out. The discovery pathways included a stage-gated process we built with the team that validated opportunities through rapid experiments and patient discovery. The work accelerated the innovation strategy and resulted in actual teams pursuing new tangible revenue-generating businesses through the creation of actual working products and services.
