A large health system

A whole new path to the future

Senior innovation leaders knew the future they wanted to build but couldn't find alignment to a pathway to realize it. We designed the process that got them there, and then helped them get board approval to build it.

The problem

Senior leaders responsible for the innovation of new digital products within the system were tasked with the development of a future vision that could enable the system to enter new markets through a restructured portfolio of products and experiences. They needed a design process that guided the team to a prototype of a future state and clarity around build pathways to realize market entry, a differentiation consolidated product experience, and the organizational capabilities to launch a new product inside out. .

How we helped

We created a futures design program to guide the leaders through four key phases including the future vision, pathways to realize the vision, models to deliver the vision and capabilities to enable the vision. We validated critical choices through market research, customer interviews and greater team dialogue and conflict. We delivered a futures prototype that illustrated how an adjacent for of the organization could exist in the now, near and far world of healthcare. We also facilitated the program using the Enneagram and other tools to build more team-level awareness of each other's perspectives.

What we built

As a result of the work, we defined and helped execute an organizational roadmap that aligned technology investment, talent development/hiring, organization learning and partnerships. The team restructured itself around the opportunity and was able to receive Board approval to build out a new business model within the organization, supported by a dedicated team.
